Tracer, the Agent of Overwatch, is a Ranged Assassin Hero from the Overwatch universe. Lena Oxton (call sign: Tracer) is an adventurer and an irrepressible force for good. With the ability to alter her own time at will, she fights the good fight wherever she goes – even the Nexus. Bending space and time, Tracer is an extremely mobile and deadly teammate. Don’t worry, loves. The cavalry’s here.[1]

Tracer is a mobile Assassin who picks off straggling enemies, finishing them off.

Background[]

Overwatch This section concerns content exclusive to the Overwatch universe.

The former Overwatch agent known as Tracer is a time-jumping adventurer and an irrepressible force for good.

Lena Oxton (call sign: "Tracer") was the youngest person ever inducted into Overwatch's experimental flight program. Known for her fearless piloting skills, she was handpicked to test the prototype of a teleporting fighter, the Slipstream. But during its first flight, the aircraft's teleportation matrix malfunctioned, and it disappeared. Lena was presumed dead.

She reappeared months later, but her ordeal had greatly changed her: her molecules had been desynchronized from the flow of time. Suffering from "chronal disassociation," she was a living ghost, disappearing for hours and days at a time. Even for the brief moments she was present, she was unable to maintain physical form.

Overwatch's doctors and scientists were stumped, and Tracer's case seemed hopeless until a scientist named Winston designed the chronal accelerator, a device capable of keeping Tracer anchored in the present. In addition, it gave Tracer the ability to control her own time, allowing her to speed it up and slow it down at will. With her newfound skills, she became one of Overwatch's most effective agents.

Since Overwatch's dissolution, Tracer has continued to right wrongs and fight the good fight wherever the opportunity presents itself.[2]

Gameplay[]

Tracer is an extremely mobile Ranged Assassin who picks off straggling enemies, finishing them off. Due to her fragility, she relies on her Abilities to constantly reposition and outmaneuver enemy forces. With her high burst damage and many escapes, she can be a nuisance to the enemy backline.

  • The destination of Recall is visible to enemy Heroes.
R
Pulse Bomb

Fire a short range bomb that can attach to an enemy if it hits them. The bomb explodes after 2 seconds, dealing 298 damage to them and 149 damage to other nearby enemies.

This Ability is slowly charged over time by dealing damage to enemies with Basic Attacks and Melee.

Type: Spell Damage

Affects: Enemies

Range: 3.6
Area of Effect: Circle

  • The Ability is available from the start of the game with 0% charge.
  • Basic Attacks grant 0.75% charge each. This amount is unaffected by any damage modifiers on Tracer or her target.
  • Enemies that walk over the center of the bomb while it's on the ground are considered primary targets and take the same damage as if the bomb were attached to them.
  • Pulse Bomb will not attach to Structures, and will instead go through or land under them.

Talents[]

1
One-Two Punch

Reduce the cooldown of Melee by 1 second and it gains an additional charge.

Cooldown between charges: 3.0 seconds
Parting Gift

Recall leaves behind 6 bombs that deal 240 damage each to different targets. Heroes hit with these bombs are Slowed by 50% for 0.75 seconds and grant 7% Pulse Bomb charge.

Type: Spell Damage
Scaling: 4.00390625%
Affects: Enemies
Properties: Skillshot
Range: 4.0
Area of Effect: Circle
Radius: 0.5 (hitbox)
Missile speed: 6.0

  • The bombs are spread evenly in 60 degree intervals, one of them launched toward the direction Tracer was facing when casting Recall.
  • Enemies cannot get hit by any of the bombs more than once.
  • Bombs expire after 1 second.
Tracer Rounds

Increase Basic Attack range by 10%. Basic Attacks against Heroes reveal a small area around them for 3 seconds.

Type: Status effect
Affects: Enemy Heroes

  • Reveal is not applied in an area. Only the Heroes directly afflicted by Tracer Rounds receive the Revealed debuff.
4
Leeching Rounds

Increase the healing from Basic Attacks by up to 200%, based on the amount of Health Tracer is missing.

  • The bonus increases linearly based on the percentage of Health Tracer is missing.
  • The bonus stacks multiplicatively with the lifesteal percentage.
Pulse Generator

Successfully sticking a Pulse Bomb to an enemy Hero heals Tracer for 12% of her maximum Health over 1.5 seconds and refunds a charge of Blink.

Type: Healing
Scaling: -
Affects: Self
Properties: Heal over Time
Tickrate: 4.0 per second (x6)
Is That a Health Pack?!

Collecting a Regeneration Globe instantly heals Tracer for 15% of her maximum Health and reduces the cooldown of Healing Fountain by 15 seconds.

Drinking from a Healing Fountain instantly heals for 20% of Tracer's maximum Health.

Type: Healing
Scaling: -
Affects: Self

7
Sleight of Hand

Reduces Reload time by 50%. This equals 20% more damage per second.

  • Reload time is actually reduced by only 46%, or if accounting for Tracer's Basic Attack being available immediately after reloading with or without this Talent, effectively a 55% reduction.
  • The DPS increase from this talent is actually 24% rather than the given tooltip's listed 20%.
  • Increases Tracer's effective Attack Speed to roughly 6.40 per second.
Focus Fire

If an entire ammo magazine is unloaded on an enemy, the last bullet will deal 80 bonus damage. This is equal to 35% of the total magazine.

Type: Physical Damage
Scaling: 4.00390625%
Affects: Self

  • Focus Fire doesn't activate if Tracer hasn't attacked the target for 2 seconds, even if the clip is the same.
  • Bonus damage can be affected by attack and damage modifiers, like Untouchable and lifesteal.
  • Bonus damage from Focus Fire is dealt in a separate instance from the final Basic Attack, meaning that it cannot benefit from Ricochet.
  • Bonus damage activates if the target was hit 10 times in a row instead of firing the last bullet, meaning Chrono Trigger won't trigger Focus Fire on the last bullet continuously.
Locked and Loaded

Reactivate Reload within the last 50% of its cast time to increase Tracer's Basic Attack damage by 40% for that magazine.

Type: Offensive damage modifier
Affects: Self
Properties: Attack Modifier

  • Does not stack with itself.
  • Damage bonus stacks additively with other offensive damage modifiers that can affect Tracer's Basic Attack damage.
  • Can be activated while mounted without dismounting Tracer.
10
Sticky Bomb

Increases Pulse Bomb's radius by 50% and enemies hit are Slowed by 70% for 3 seconds.

Type: Crowd control
Affects: Enemies

Bonus radius:
- Center: 0.375
- Outer: 1.25
Quantum Spike

Pulse Bomb deals an additional 6% of maximum Health as damage to Heroes.

Type: Spell Damage
Scaling: -
Affects: Enemy Heroes
Properties: Percent Damage

  • Bonus damage from Quantum Spike is dealt in a separate instance.
Pulse Rounds

Increases Pulse Bomb's range and charge rate from Basic Attacks against Heroes by 100%.

Bonus range: 3.6
13
Untouchable

Passive: After Blinking, gain 20% Movement Speed for 1.25 seconds.

❢ Quest: Takedowns increase Tracer's Basic Attack damage by 5%, up to 25%. These bonuses are lost on death.

Type: Offensive damage modifier, Status effect
Affects: Self

  • Damage bonus stacks additively with itself and other offensive damage modifiers that can affect Tracer's Basic Attack damage.
Jumper

Passive: When Blink has no charges remaining, its cooldown charges 100% faster.

Casting Blink grants Tracer a Shield equal to 6% of her maximum Health for 3 seconds. This Shield stacks up to 3 times.

Type: Shield
Scaling: -
Affects: Self
Telefrag

Passive: Basic Attacks against enemy Heroes reduce the cooldown of Recall by 0.1875 seconds.

When Tracer arrives at her Recall location she becomes Unkillable for 1 second and nearby enemies take 175 damage and are knocked back.

Type: Spell Damage, Crowd control / Status effect, Cooldown reduction
Scaling: 4.00390625%
Affects: Enemies / Self
Area of Effect: Circle
Radius: 3.0
Knockback duration: 0.1274 seconds
Knockback speed: 20
16
Bullet Spray

Increases the radius of Melee by 30%, and causes it to damage all enemies in range.

Bonus radius: 0.7

  • Additional enemies hit do not generate Pulse Bomb charge.
Heavy Handed

Heroes hit by Melee have their Armor reduced by 15 for 4 seconds.

Type: Defensive damage modifier
Affects: Enemy Heroes
Properties: Armor reduction

  • Armor reduction is applied after the damage from Melee and any instantly detonated Pulse Bombs through Get Stuffed have been dealt.
  • Does not stack with itself or other negative Armor effects. Other defensive damage modifiers may stack.
Ricochet

Tracer's Basic Attacks have a 60% chance to hit another nearby enemy, prioritizing Heroes.

Type: Physical Damage
Scaling: -
Affects: Enemies
Properties: Attack Modifier, Bounce
Radius: 5.0 (bounce)

  • The chance to trigger and selection of targets is random.
  • Ricocheting bullets can only bounce to visible targets.
  • Ricocheting bullets interact with Tracer Rounds and Telefrag talents and benefit from damage modifier and lifesteal effects.
  • Ricocheting bullets do not generate additional Pulse Bomb charge.
  • Will not bounce to unaggroed Mercenaries.
20
Chrono Triggers

Casting Blink causes Basic Attacks to not consume ammo for 1 second.

Get Stuffed!

Increases Melee's Pulse Bomb charge against Heroes from 10% to 20%. Hitting an enemy with Melee who is stuck with a Pulse Bomb causes the bomb to instantly explode and knock the target away.

Type: Crowd control
Affects: Enemies
Properties: Knockback
Knockback duration: 0.375 seconds
Knockback speed: 24.375

  • If there are multiple Tracers on a team, any Tracer with the Get Stuffed! Talent can cause the knockback effect on a target affected by any Tracer's Pulse Bomb. The instant explosion effect, however, cannot be triggered in this way.
  • Knockback can still be activated even if melee was applied after the Pulse Bomb damage for a very short moment.
Total Recall

Recall heals Tracer equal to the amount of Health she lost during that time.

Type: Healing
Scaling: -
Affects: Self

  • Tracer is healed after the Stasis from Recall ends for the difference between the Health she had 3.25 seconds earlier (i.e. at the time being "rewound to") and the Health she currently has.
Composition B

Successfully sticking a Pulse Bomb to an enemy Hero also drops another one at their feet that deals 50% damage and explodes slightly earlier.

Type: Spell Damage
Scaling: 6.00585938%
Affects: Enemies

  • Secondary bomb also has the effects of Pulse Bomb's Heroic upgrade.
  • Secondary bomb has its own base damage values (which are half of the originals), causing the damage reduction to stack multiplicatively with offensive damage modifiers.
  • The bonus damage from Quantum Spike is also exceptionally halved in the secondary bomb.

Quotes[]

Trivia[]

  • Tracer was the first hero from the Overwatch franchise to enter the Nexus, and she appeared in Heroes of the Storm a month before Overwatch was released.
  • Tracer is voiced by British drama actress Cara Theobold.
  • It was revealed that Tracer would be added to Heroes of the Storm at BlizzCon 2015.[3]
  • Those who prepurchased a digital copy of Overwatch: Origins Edition gained access to Tracer on April 19, 2016. She became available for sale to everyone as of April 26, 2016.[1]
  • Tracer is the first Overwatch hero in the game.
  • The One-Two Punch talent is named after a fundamental boxing technique commonly first taught to boxers - a jab with the left hand immediately followed by a cross with the right hand after hitting with the jab.
  • The Telefrag talent's function and name refers to a phenomenon in early first-person shooters wherein if a player was to teleport or respawn at a location where another player was already standing, the original player there would be killed to make space for the new player.
  • Composition B's talent name comes from an actual explosive mixture of RDX and TNT. Ironically, an indication of Tracer using it is rather at odds with how the Overwatch universe takes place in a futuristic setting while Composition B has been progressively phased out of militaries since the 1950s with other combinations that are less sensitive and thus safer for their users (especially considering Tracer handles her Pulse Bombs by hand).
