Does anyone know who has permission to edit the hero subpage for the main page? It's been several months, and Deathwing hasn't been added yet. I'd like to know who to poke to get a move on. [[User:TheMurlocAggroB|TheMurlocAggroB]] ([[User talk:TheMurlocAggroB|talk]]) 17:57, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Zagara

Za'Gara to Zagara, on the list of Heroes... --189.169.63.43 10:04, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Classification of the two new heroes arriving on the 15th

Brightwing (just recently confirmed at PAX at the time of me writing this) is listed under Specialist for some reason, when her article says she's classified as Support. I also thought that Li Li was confirmed to be Support, but she's still listed under Unknown Role (though maybe that's just because there isn't a good picture of her yet.) 24.113.23.15 05:41, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Tychus

Add Tychus tile, and reorder the diablo heroes (Barbarian and Demon Hunter), please :)--Kandooww (talk) 22:14, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Link typos

The Mercenary Camps and Watch Towers links in the Mechanics section are redlinks, not because the content is missing but because the pages are called Mercenary camp and Watchtower, respectively. I can't fix this because the page is protected. -- Taohinton (talk) 20:41, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Discuss the wiki

Down at the bottom-left of the front page, under 'DISCUSS THE WIKI' there's a typo: the word 'with' is spelt 'wit'. Additionally, the 'Talk' link links to this uncreated talk page for the Community Portal, rather than the main wiki-wide discussion page, which seems likely to be what was intended. -- Taohinton (talk) 20:46, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

The News section also seems to be broken (output on my screen: "<rss_item_template_tag> <rss_item_template_tag> <rss_item_template_tag> <rss_item_template_tag> <rss_item_template_tag>"), but I suspect this may be because it's a work in progress (or a result of the semi-persistent display bug), rather than an error :) -- Taohinton (talk) 20:48, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

I've corrected the issues you've pointed out. Thanks! --User:Lancey6 (talk) 03:53, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Show Heroes by role as rows instead of columns

Visually, I think the hero table on the main page would display better if hero roles were displayed as rows instead of columns, as the hero icons are taller than they are wide. This would make the table take up more space, but overall it would look like less space is being wasted on the Support and Specialist categories that have fewer heroes. --User:Lancey6 (talk) 23:50, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Changes

<snip> (original table archived at http://heroesofthestorm.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Talk:Heroes_of_the_Storm_Wiki&oldid=22360 )

(Would you let me edit it? :D)--Kandooww (talk) 18:29, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

I've transplanted your update onto the front page, assuming that was your intention :P It's a shame about the Demon Hunter text being too long; <small> is a good fix, but not quite perfect. Also moved this comment to the bottom, where new comments should being their wiki-journeys ;) -- Taohinton (talk) 00:53, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Murky and Zagara

Am I right in thinking these two should be added to the front page? -- Taohinton (talk) 22:37, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, but in "Unknown role" because we have't had the picture yet.--Kandooww (talk) 11:25, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
Change Murky please :)--Kandooww (talk) 17:51, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
Done :) -- Taohinton (talk) 20:29, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Hero names

Valla instead of Demon Hunter.

Sonya instead of Barbarian.

Nazeebo instead of Witch Doctor.

Are they called with these name in the game? Because in the official page they are called with their class names --Kandooww (talk) 20:50, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
In the game, yes, the demon hunter is called Valla. Same goes with the rest of them. I'd personally would like the names to be displayed instead of the class they are. Zdroid9770 18:26, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

Suggestion

I've changed up a few things, the "Heroes" section on the main page would be best to be removed and replaced with: {{:Heroes of the Storm Wiki/Heroes}}Zdroid9770 18:38, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

Done. -- Taohinton (talk) 21:17, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

This wiki is terrible to edit

I would have liked to help with correcting and adding data and improving the layout, but I don't have the slightest motivation to mess with those terrible data templates. This has to be simplified massively to get any meaningful collaboration. 91.7.152.223 09:44, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Completely agree. I can't correct awful mistakes in the ability sections of such heroes as Kael'thas and Stitches. And nobody cares. This wiki seems to be utterly deserted. I can help WoWPedia and Hearthstone project, but this one is hopeless. Dota 2 Gamepedia is similar but they have enough dedicated manpower to make it nearly perfect. But here? I can't even change the order of abilities or add spaces between words!--Adunaii (talk) 01:37, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Every time something has been brought to my attention I've work with the data team to try and correct it; however, the accessibility of the templates really is a huge problem. Why is this a wiki if it's just hosting abstracted data that is highly difficult for users to edit? That's what the Nexus is there for and the having to go through multiple parties to correct simple mistakes becomes tiring. Considering there have been people expressing interest in working on the wiki I think it's probably past time it moved to a more user editing friendly format. I'll start working on that. --Sigilbaram (talk) 17:08, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Here's some of what I did quick: Falstad#Skills. I took the cooldown, mana cost, and type out of the skill descriptions and made them their own fields and redid the layout code so it will be easier to adjust. It also no longer pulls from the data dump, since I'm tired of asking them to fix the same things over and over (I asked them several times to pull the cooldown and cost out of the descriptions). --Sigilbaram (talk) 18:16, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that example! I'll try to update other Heroes' articles. But what's about Talents? I'm quite happy with their state now (i.e. they don't have mistakes) but they're put in templates as well. And should there be an empty line between Skills (or Talents) and the name of the section? Generally, it's not the case.--Adunaii (talk) 19:22, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
I was actually looking for an updated template I made for the talents a while ago, that seems to be gone, but yeah I'll make those user editable too. The empty line after the section heading doesn't get parsed by the wiki, so it doesn't really make a difference, except maybe for readability. I just put it there out of habit. For example, Wikipedia's style guide says a blank line after the heading is optional https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Section_headings. I did ask them to run another update, which should go through tomorrow hopefully. That way we can have the current version of things to draw from. I tried making the templates work with substs: so there would be less manual work, but it seems {{#var}} doesn't play nice with subst:, probably because things with subst: always gets processed first. --Sigilbaram (talk) 19:56, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Sigilbaram, it was in your sandbox and you've deleted there. I'm sure you can find it in the edit history. --Celellach (talk) 20:50, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Sigilbaram, thank you, there is much need for this as a lot of Talents haven't been updated since the latest patches. On the other hand, currently, they take the description directly from the game files. I wouldn't have any problem with this but some Talents have grammar mistakes made by Blizzard (look at Focused Attack, it reads "an Hero"!). Should I correct them or leave unchanged? Sometimes, those mistakes hinder the understanding of a Talent (Eviscerate: Increases Ravage's by 40%).--Adunaii (talk) 21:08, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

(Resetting indent) There was a dump run on Monday that brought the data up to the current version of the game and moved cooldown and mana cost from the skill descriptions into separate fields. I'm trying to think of a nice way to format the talent templates so that it doesn't turn into a massive thing, but it's probably going to need to be massive. I'd also like to improve the templates so that they can be separate templates while still allowing them to draw from the data, so that only things that are wrong need to be updated manually. --Sigilbaram (talk) 15:49, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Patch changes for Heroes

Are there any plans for adding "Patch changes" section to each Hero's article? Dota 2 Gamepedia, WoWPedia and LoL projects include it.--Adunaii (talk) 01:37, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

I would love that also. No idea how to get it automated though (as doing it manually sounds like a horrible work load). --Celellach (talk) 10:03, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Blizzard released the latest patch notes as 13.0.0. Earlier versions were also assigned numbers. It could be used by this Wiki.--Adunaii (talk) 03:50, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
If you'd like to help make something like this you are free to do so. It would be a nice feature. I could help you with templates of things like that. Unfortunately automating it would be fairly involved if not near-impossible. --Sigilbaram (talk) 16:30, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
I'll try to add them all, it's not that hard, I believe. On the other hand, I'm not able to tell the dates of particular patches like on on WoWPedia. But it's not such big of a deal as Dota 2 Gamepedia can do without it.--Adunaii (talk) 19:22, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Sigilbaram, do you know how wowpedia does it? --Celellach (talk) 07:29, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with how WoWpedia does thing. Link to the kind of page you're talking about? --Sigilbaram (talk) 17:40, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
It seems I'm a little late to the discussions that have been going on! This is one of the things that I was considering adding (if and when I had the time). As for Wowpedia, all patch changes info is manually added to each page. It's a pretty mammoth task and is always somewhat behind. Heroes should be a bit simpler, though. On a related note, see Talk:Patches#The future for my current minimal-effort solution regarding the patches themselves. If someone is going through the patches to make patch changes sections, that page should give you all the links, and such a person might be in the mood to also copy the full patch notes over and format them nicely, rather than just link to the originals. -- Taohinton (talk) 23:44, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Heroes of the Storm IS NOT A MOBA

Could anyone please edit the front page of this Wiki? It states outright lies about HotS being a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena! Blizzard Entertainment clearly defines the game's genre as Hero Brawler (proof). I request it to be changed as soon as possible.--Adunaii (talk) 05:35, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Does anybody give a flying Monk about this project? Still this MOBA on the front page, still ability templates are completely broken...--Adunaii (talk) 06:24, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
Hello. Sorry, for whatever reason the wiki decided not to notify me about changes to this page. As for the game not being a MOBA... That's essentially just marketing. Blizzard's basically putting a square peg in a square hole and calling it a random name besides a square so it sounds "nicer". In what way is this not a MOBA besides what Blizzard likes to say about it, which is basically just "we are making a MOBA, but we are doing it slightly differently"? That article also says Riot calls LoL an "ARTS", which I've never even heard of before. Everyone I've talked to calls LoL a MOBA (and I work with the people on LoL wiki). Developers can call their game whatever they like, but calling a duck a llama doesn't make it not a duck, and MOBA is the accept community term for this genre of games (including LoL which is an "ARTS" supposedly) and has been for years. --Sigilbaram (talk) 16:26, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be better to use Blizzard's terminology on a Gamepedia which centers on a Blizzard's game? MOBA is a term coined by Riot Games, and Blizzard explicitly stated HotS is not a MOBA. There is a fan-made video about this issue.--Adunaii (talk) 19:22, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Hmm. I'm not trying to belittle what HotS does different, because I really do like the way HotS abandons the micromanagement of items, last hitting, etc in favor of letting players focus on actual game play. The huge influence of last hitting alone drives me crazy especial in LoL where it is practically all or nothing. However, HotS still very much fits in the MOBA genre. Perhaps there would be a way to include both terms? Something like "Heroes of the Storm, by Blizzard Entertainment, is a Hero Brawler, which has many similarities to Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games."? --Sigilbaram (talk) 20:17, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
The main page (portal) should call it by its genre name, which is MOBA. Hero Brawler, the unique name Blizzard picked for this game, is either a sub-genre or just a trademark name for a MOBA game. What the game definition is, should be elaborated on Heroes of the Storm. The portal is just a few words introduction and holds links to the main aspects of the game. --Celellach (talk) 20:53, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
AFAIK, MOBA is not a ubiquitously recognized term, even though Wikipedia uses it. I heard DotA fans claiming that game to be A-RTS. Granted, there is a recent discussion on Wikipedia itself. Dota 2 Gamepedia uses A-RTS term to describe Dota 2. Why should Heroes of the Storm Gamepedia use a League of Legends term? That doesn't seem right to me. They're almost equal, sure, but that's exactly the reason why we should use different words for different games.--Adunaii (talk) 21:08, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
I came here as an editor from Wikipedia, as such, I hold the belief that no original research is very important to a credibility of a wiki. If you can find a few sources claiming that (A) Heroes of the Storm is a "Heroe Brwaler" and (B) what the differences between that and a MOBA are, I'll gladly change it. Currently, as evident at Wikipedia:Multiplayer online battle arena, the accepted terms are Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) and action real-time strategy (ARTS). In addition, look at the image pf a typical MOBA map on that page, its how the maps in HotS are made. --Celellach (talk) 07:19, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Excuse me, but shouldn't we make an article about what HotS Gamepedia is not? For me, HotS Gamepedia is not Wikipedia. We have no need to adhere to their decisions (e.g., pile multiple games into the MOBA genre). HotS Gamepdia should mirror the opinion of Blizzard Entertainment on the matter, first and foremost. LoL Wiki doesn't call LoL an A-RTS. Dota 2 Gamepedia doesn't call Dota 2 a MOBA. Then why does HotS Gamapedia use a LoL term to describe this game? If we use Wikipedia as an example, then go ahead and write in Raynor's article "Raynor is a fictional character from a fictional universe battling against the fictional Dominion". It's the same as using terminology from Everquest in WoWPedia, it's unacceptable. Why even is that article on Wikipedia called MOBA? Because it's a LoL bias. And then, even that article explicitly states that the genre is _also_ called A-RTS. Then why is there no mention of hero brawler there? Because it's not popular enough. Guess what, one of HotS Gamepedia's main missions is popularization of HotS. HotS Gamepedia may be the reason for renaming the article on Wikipedia from MOBA to Hero Brawler one day! But that day is not today, today I'm voting for renaming.--Adunaii (talk) 12:30, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

(Resetting indent) Again, hero brawler is essentially a marketing ploy to say "we aren't just another MOBA", when it clearly is an ARTS/MOBA/Whatever we want to call it. It's like people saying MOBA was made up by Riot and ARTS is the actual term. Well "hero brawler" was made up by Blizzard and MOBA is the most widely used term outside of the DOTA/DOTA2 crowd, which have some reason to be mad about being called a MOBA since they came first. Blizzard is coming along after the fact and being all "MOBA's have a bad rap, so I'm going to call myself something else even though that is what I am". It comes down to what the accepted name of the genre is and we don't need yet another term to describe what is, at it's core, the same type of game (heroes helping minions walk down a path so they can destroy/reach objectives). Just because one game comes along and changes the formula some, doesn't mean it's a whole new genre. Personally I think none of these terms actually describe the genre well. ARTS to me is like FPS, it focuses on the control scheme rather than the what is going on in the game (Which would exclude Smite, which is in the same genre despite using FPS controls and bares no resemblance to an RTS). MOBA is just random and doesn't describe much of anything, like many people in the ARTS vs MOBA debate say, and the map doesn't even look like a typical "arena", except for Smite's Arena mode. "Hero Brawler" is like MOBA and could be any number of things were heroes fight each other, like Overwatch, which is nothing like HotS. What we really need something that actually defines and describes the genre. Colloquially that is MOBA, even though MOBA is a completely random term that fails at the describing part. We need something better that describes the genre as a whole, but that doesn't come from one company or another and is actually descriptive of the game mechanics that all the games in the genre share (so we can stop drawing lines between ARTS, MOBA, Hero Brawler, etc.). Something like HMO (heroes minions & objectives)... or something (I'm bad at coming up with acronyms). Even Smite's arena mode fits in that if you consider the portals the objective (matches can be won or lost based on minions reaching those portals, even if the loosing team had more kills). I really doubt the internet as a whole would make the mass switch from MOBA to something more descriptive/unifying at this point, though, even if someone came up with an actual good genre name. --Sigilbaram (talk) 16:40, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

While finding a better term would be great, its not our job. Like I said earlier, inside the Heroes of the Storm article, we can talk about the naming differences, but as long as the genre name is called "MOBA" or "ARTS" then that is the name. We (a handful of editors writing in a corner of the internet) won't be the ones changing that. --Celellach (talk) 07:53, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Oh I know. I was more just saying that all the terms are equally arbitrary and fail at describing the genre, but MOBA is the generally accepted one. --Sigilbaram (talk) 15:42, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
A bit of a tangent, but in reading through this I just wanted to reply to Celellach's point about original research. Gaming wikis like this one have a few important differences to Wikipedia, and original research is one of them. {{Citation needed}} is warranted in cases of the addition of unverifiable or peculiar information, but that aside most of the useful info on a wiki like this will essentially be original research. References (let alone reliable, published, non-official references) are few and far between for game specifics, and when you can find them are usually out of date or wrong. References for intricate details are often non-existent, or would take hours to find.
Writing about new features and getting info up on the wiki ASAP is a very collaborative and mistake-prone process, and while the reputation of the wiki should rightly inspire prudence, referencing and double-checking of information, it should not deter editors from adding good information whenever possible. Wikis also fill a unique niche in the gaming community in recording so much non-critical information, which again is not always possible to source. In essence, while Wikipedia is a compendium of things other people have said, gaming wikis usually include a lot of things the editors of that wiki have said, which are often quite relevant, interesting and useful to readers. -- Taohinton (talk) 00:01, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Prices need an update

Could anyone update prices for some heroes in all currencies? I don't know what's Chen's and Tyrael's new prices in EUR, and Illidan's and Tychus' prices don't match the list. Also, the list of skins gives prices in USD and in pounds but not in EUR when all other articles give them in USD and in EUR but not in pounds. It needs some major cleaning but I can't access all the prices myself.--Adunaii (talk) 00:15, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Add Gul'dan to the frontpage

Could you add Gul'dan to the list of unconfirmed Heroes on the front page?--Adunaii (talk) 18:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Done. The list is currently for "Unknown role", not unconfirmed, but since the Gul'dan article says he has been confirmed, I'm assuming that's what you meant. -- Taohinton (talk) 22:34, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Capitalization of particular words

Should words such as "hero" or "talent" be capitalized everywhere? Blizzard does this, should this Wiki? It would be an enormous task to correct every single case though.--Adunaii (talk) 12:47, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Columns

To me, columns that correspond to Hero roles look only partially coloured. Their bottom parts are grey. Can they be extended? Screenshot.--Adunaii (talk) 19:31, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

It can work until for now --Kandooww (talk) 20:11, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Hero release dates

For Dehaka it's March 29, 2016; for Tracer, it's April 26, 2016. They still don't have it mentioned in their infoboxes.--Adunaii (talk) 06:56, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm no expert, but it looks like you can just add it through eg Data:Champions/Tracer. I've added those dates for the two you mentioned. Of course, if you're talking about the imports not including the data, that's another problem. -- Taohinton (talk) 15:20, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

HotS Gamepedia Leaderboard bug

On my profile, it says I'm #2. But on the Leaderboard itself it can be clearly seen I'm #11. How come?--Adunaii (talk) 05:21, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

I don't know if there's a fix, but this regularly happens on other wikis too. It seems to just be a display error, and should correct/revert itself before too long. -- Taohinton (talk) 12:40, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
And now it's going mental...--Adunaii (talk) 09:46, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

HotS Gamepedia new advertisement policy

I noticed the HotS Gamepedia's advertisement policy has changed. Users that aren't logged in see a truly massive section (1/4) of every article on the project covered by an advertisement banner that can't be closed and can't be scrolled down from. I suggest reverting it back to the old model. The Gamepedia's vast advantage over the Wikia network has always been clean design and the minimal use of ads. The birth of a new project, WoWPedia, happened because WoWWiki abused their ad policy. And now you're giving out Pro accounts to the Gamepedia contributors so that they couldn't see the new design? That's quite hypocritical.--Adunaii (talk) 05:38, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

I agree, the new block is far more intrusive than the old one. Sadly it also displays more ads which means more revenue, which I'm guessing means it won't be reverted. -- Taohinton (talk) 12:42, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

The order of the franchises

I suggest moving Starcraft from the fourth to second place as per the Hero selection screen. Also, can Blizzard Classic/The Lost Vikings be mentioned, or would it be too much clutter?--Adunaii (talk) 12:27, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Store section

I suggest adding a Store section to the main page that links to the pages for hero releases, the current prices, and skin/mount information. (Maybe replace the Media section since there's nothing in there.) There is also no page on bundle history that I can find. --Mongoose (talk) 05:26, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

The role names are currently messed up

Fix, please. I can't remove that horrible "Multiclass" role myself as nobody trusts me enough to give me the rights. So the only hope is on the timely intervention of the lords of HotSPedia.--Adunaii (talk) 16:42, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Hahaha, yes, we can delete it, I was waiting that someone starts the topic xD Varian can a multiclass, BUT he is assassin and warrior. I'm going to delete it and if someone want to talk about it, just talk here --Kandooww (talk) 17:12, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

I have messed up Alarak's level 16 Talents

Someone, please, help. I don't know why when I reverted to a green version, it suddenly shows the red one. And vice versa. Those icons resist the change for some reason.--Adunaii (talk) 12:18, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

heroespatchnotes.com is incredible, let's use it!

Would it be acceptable to add the respective links from heroespatchnotes.com to every Hero article (and to Patches)?--Adunaii (talk) 08:31, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

I agree, I think I will at least link each Hero's patch notes to their page in the External Links section. — Rmkane (talk) 22:29, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

How come all structures are put in the "Fort" page?

Could this page be changed to Structures? --CaptainNecron (talk) 23:39, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Agreed. Can someone with the rights change it please?--LemonBaby (talk) 15:08, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Heroes Nexus is Shutting Down

It's official, the administrator of the site — Molster — has stated the following:

Sadly a site like this has a somewhat high upkeep. Patches require dev time to do imports. Any change that breaks an import would cause a wave effect of other delays on various projects. We also no longer have someone to handle news on the front page. Traffic as a whole has been low on the site for a very long time, and we are just not able to keep it going.

You can read about it here: This site is dead. Heroes Nexus - Forums. Retrieved on 2016-12-22.

I guess we should start to replace or remove the Heroes Nexus links form each hero's Data page.

— Thanks, Rmkane (talk) 12:42, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Is it possible to change the news on the front page to another site? Like changing it from the news of http://www.heroesnexus.com/ to the news of http://www.heroesfire.com/ since they're still bringing news, albeit maybe we could also take another site, since they also have different newsposts like those Guides of the Week. But I'm just meaning we'd have a new source of news, no matter what place. I personally just have been going to heroesfire since heroesnexus stopped posting news. Ylc0304 (talk) 06:30, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Agree. It should be changed.--LemonBaby (talk) 14:40, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

Are my rights to edit images limited?

Why can't I edit images such as this? I upload a blue version, yet it takes it as a purple one. What gives?--Adunaii (talk) 22:51, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

It likely saved the old image in your cache and so you keep seeing the old image despite the new image already being there. As such it'd take some time before you see the new image. Or you can just renew the cache. Ylc0304 (talk) 07:46, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Image caching is very slow, new versions can take quite a long time to update, but rest assured, they will — Game widow (talk) 14:19, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Hero Tints 2.0

So, with 2.0 eliminating the concept of tints, I guess the Skin sections for all Heroes needs to be redone? I am assuming that the files will need to be renamed as well.

Do you like the changes?--Kandooww (talk) 18:10, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, it looks good. I am gonna mess around with the Beta later today to get a better feel for the new collections. — Rmkane (talk) 18:55, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
I like your version, it is better compared to the one I tried to do in Cassia's article :P. It only miss the skin features. Senescalzin Talk with me! 19:21, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
I'm really not a fan of the table format for the skin sections for a few reasons. From an editing perspective, its just not intuitive as regular wiki editing. I was trying to add 2 lines and it took me a while to understand how to make each line be on a separate line and not be a column. Additionally, editing a specific skin section becomes hard/confusing as I was lost in all the table code and other skin information, which in regular wiki format would have been very easily done. From a personal point of view, I think its just ugly. The images and text all look too close to each other, with text readability becoming weird with the centering of the text. And the grey background that, imo, does not look good. Not trying to offend anyone as you're all doing a great job, just think this was a miss. --Celellach (talk) 09:14, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
I just proposed an example as a simple suggestion which was then modified and used. The grey background is really a white background with transparency. That trick is already being used on the weekly rotation table. I also agree that the editing can be hard and I have already suggested a template, but due to my current role on the wiki, it may be hard to do that (css and other special configuration behind the scenes). I would like the skins section to use a template similar to the way talents are defined on a hero's data page. — Thanks, Rmkane (talk) 17:26, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
I went ahead and consolidated a bunch of table styles/rules and placed them into three templates (to start).
I already did this with Abathur, maybe these can be tweaked before they can be applied to the other Hero skin sections. This makes it easy to tweak any CSS or layout across all the Hero's skin sections! — Rmkane (talk) 18:10, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
I'm still not a fan of the table use for this skin section as I feel the subject does not serve a "table" purpose, nor does the table help in any way. I would argue that the way its handled here, Li-Ming#Skins, is much better. Prices for variations of a skin are the same price for each variation, so no need to enter them for each one, and the skin variation name can be added at the bottom of the image, like its done for any other image in the gallery. The style templates really helped, so if its staying, at least the style won't need to be manually edited each time. On a related note, I noticed that I created a template a while back for the backstory section (Template:Backstory The Butcher Flesh Carver), this should be created and added, as the backstory is used a lot of the times in more than one place, and any text change/update will get lost if we're going to need to update it each time it changes in each page its used. Another thing that I've noticed, is that the "Trivia" section has skin information in it, which gets lost in the clutter of other trivia info and it loses its context. These should be added under those skins. See Diablo#Skins for an example how I think it should be (visually this can be better handled, that was the best I could do with my table knowledge). --Celellach (talk) 22:47, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi! I'm working in a "better" template (copying from Overwatch wiki) Look, do you prefer this option? --Kandooww (talk) 16:42, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
I realy like it! --LemonBaby (talk) 18:08, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
When you say it, I can start to introduce the template xD --Kandooww (talk) 10:32, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
This looks better, I'm fine with this. Please make sure you add documentation to the template so future editors will know about all the options it has. --Celellach (talk) 19:11, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Clicking "edit" on the template does not lead to the template, it leads to an empty page, maybe its because its written as {{{{PAGENAME}} Skins}}, please take a look a this so when the edit on the template is clicked, it leads to the correct page.--Celellach (talk) 19:16, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

More notes:

  • what do CTH, CTS, CBG, CPB, CC and CN stand for? I'm not a fan of template names where you have to guess the name. -Changed
  • I'm looking at your template and you've written the hero name "Alarak" so many times. It really seems way redundant. This should be only be needed to be added once to the "CTH" area. No need to continue for each row. - I don't know how to merge them
  • In "CPB", what does the "s" section do? reference the skin image? If so, change the "s" to "image_src" or something. -I think that it's changed xD
  • Also in "CPB", if the "n" stands for "name" use "name", same for "price" and "gold". - I think it's better to keep S for shards, G for gold and N for name
  • Again in "CPB", the first skin has a gold price, yet the template also gives it a shard price? This should not work like this as it isn't intuitive, as you have a "p" for shard price. - Changed? xD

So to recap, if you can, change the template names from those 3 letter abbreviations into something more readable, remove the need to add the hero name for each line, fix the template name not leading to the template page and add documentation to the templates. --Celellach (talk) 19:31, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Checked the list :) --Kandooww (talk) 09:24, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Ok, the names are MUCH better.
  • What does the "C/" part stand for? - "Cosmetic"
  • Why does {{C/Image|Alarak Highlord of the Tal'darim 1|g=10000}} give also a shard price, eventhough you didnt write "s=750"? - (Do you mean gem price?) Because "g=" is using a Template:Cost derivative, like (in this case, this one.
  • Why when I click the edit link here it doesn't work? - Translation problems hahaha I haven't notice that.
  • The templates need documentation before we can use them. Explain what its for; if it uses any user-input, write the parameters it takes in; if it uses another template, list them - for example, in c/notes i see you created a Warcraft one (which is using a wrong name, it should use something more descriptive. "Notes Warcraft Skins" or something similar), so we need to list all the templates used here, so future editors will not create duplicates, or just not use current ones. - Puff... It gonna take time hahaha, and the Warcraft template is something that I create in order to not be copying all the same, but you can write the note withour any template.
I think once we sort these issues we can start converting to this. --Celellach (talk) 15:58, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your patience, I'm not good at making templates u.u --Kandooww (talk) 17:31, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Templates are amazing, but for them to be amazing, they must be (A) easy to use, (B) easy to understand, and (C) fully documented. The previous pre-table way was very easy to use since it required no understanding of wiki code. If we are going to use this in every character page, it must follow these simple rules. Just add a few lines of explanation to every template so it won't be empty and I think we're ready to go. --Celellach (talk) 18:30, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

The Butcher's place in the new alphabetic order

According to the new alphabetic order that will rise from the ashes of HotS 1.0, The Butcher falls under the letter B, not T. He already does in the Try Mode. Time for a change?--Adunaii (talk) 01:14, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Personally, I always considered him to be in the B section. I welcome this new change. Should he be place higher is any page that lists him? e.g. List of previous free rotationsRmkane (talk) 11:01, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Hey, could you explain to me what the difference between those two are? It seems that your page is merely the new sale, if that's the case, why was a new page needed to be created and not update the previous one?--Celellach (talk) 19:46, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Weekly sale is a legacy thing. They have re-branded it as Weekly Collection Update. If you know how to do it, please do. — Rmkane (talk) 21:05, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Just update the weekly sale page with the new information, when you're done i'll delete the new page you created and move this page over. --Celellach (talk) 15:43, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

How can I edit "Custom hero table"?

The article List of heroes by release date is completely blank save for this template. How can I edit it? When I open it, it doesn't have any information.
What's the point of having blank pages? What's the point of making them difficult to edit? Hero Price History is a normal page, and it gets updated earlier.--Adunaii (talk) 13:50, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

The table doesn't get updated directly. Update the hero's infobox with the correct price and it'll get updated on the table. Hanzo isn't listed because there's no price in the infobox on his page. --Alianin T •  C 21:39, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

New template for listing undocumented properties

Hi UserProfile:Taqx2, LemonBaby!

I've created a template {{undoc-x}} which contains the basic properties of the abilities and some formatting options, so you won't have to format the undocumented properties by yourself.

We can even deal with the existing manually-formatted {{undoc}} templates, converting them into new ones with regex.

  • And oh, I hadn't tested it on the data pages. Styles currently work wrong. Need some workaround. Phoe nixx (talk) 00:34, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
    • Well now, it works, however, better to add some CSS for this template. Phoe nixx (talk) 01:00, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much for this effort! It would be nice to have a list of all possible "Targetings", "Properties", etc on the templates page... --LemonBaby (talk) 06:03, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Well, give all possible variants seems to be impossible to me :) But I may give examples in next several days. Phoe nixx (talk) 19:38, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
This is great. I had this in my mind when I first started adding the notes, but I wasn't then sure how much is the format going to change, so I put it on hold for the time being. But now that we've started to stick with the current format, I think it is very welcome. It makes the notes more readable in the edit interface and just more simple overall. One question though, what did you intend the "aoe" parameter to be used for? --taQtaQ (talk) 21:43, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
For the irregular AoEs. Look at Deckard's page, for example. Phoe nixx (talk) 22:20, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Python script to create announcer quotes pages

I've recently created a python script that helps you to create announcer quotes pages like El Guapo/Quotes from ConversationStrings.txt files found in the game files.

It works only with generic quotes, not battleground-specific ones, due to irregularity of the latter.

Link: https://github.com/phoenixx-666/announcer-hots

The script works with Python 2.7.

  • Bruiser: Strong and sturdy warriors that also dish out pain. Not suitable for solo tanking, instead, they have additional mobility, crowd control, or survival capabilities.
  • Healer: Everyone's best friends. There to keep their allies alive and relatively healthy during teamfights.
  • Melee Assassin: Slayers of Heroes and bringers of pain. Specialize in high damage output on single targets, or ambushes.
  • Ranged Assassin: Damage dealers who rain bullets, arrows, or deadly spells down upon on enemies' heads. Generally fragile, they feel safest keeping their distance away from enemies.
  • Support: Make allies stronger and deadlier. Buff, augment, shield, and provide utility to the team.
  • Tank: Front-line defenders, capable of withstanding some serious damage. In charge of shielding their more fragile teammates from enemies.

Links for the properties of Abilities

There is an article about Vector Targeting, and yet it's not linked on the Hero pages. Moreover, capitalization is inconsistent- it's "Targeting: Vector targeting" on Probius, "Targeting: Vector target" on Blaze and "Targeting: Vector Targeting" on Deckard. Also, Xul and Ragnaros lack it completely.--Adunaii (talk) 14:46, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
