Lieutenant Rosa Morales, the Combat Medic, is a ranged Healer Hero from the StarCraft universe.[1] Lt. Morales joined the United Earth Directorate (UED) to make a difference and protect her family. Over a very long and storied career, she has distinguished herself as a peerless medic, able to keep her patients alive and in the fight long after anyone else would have gone down. Lt. Morales is a veteran of the Brood War, and even the destruction of the UED Expeditionary Fleet didn’t slow her down. In the Nexus, she does what she does best: heal her teammates, support her allies, and make a difference.[2]

Lieutenant Morales is a strong, sustained Healer who's unbeatable if left alone by her enemies.

Background[edit | edit source]

This section concerns content exclusive to the StarCraft universe.

Rosa Morales was a medic of the United Earth Directorate of Earth. When the UED launched its invasion to conquer the distant terran colonies of the Koprulu Sector and subjugate the alien powers there, Morales signed up hoping to make a difference and protect her family. Initially the assault was successful in conquering the Terran Dominon, and Morales was part of the elite medic team that pacified the Second Overmind and allowed the UED to control the majority of the zerg. However, the invasion ended in disaster as the fleet was destroyed, stranding Morales in the Koprulu Sector 60,000 light years from her home. In spite of her origins, Morales was later inducted into the Dominion Navy Medical Corps of the same nation she had arrived to conquer, and continued to save lives in a new alien sector.

The medics of the United Earth Directorate follow a time-honored tradition of selflessly marching into combat zones to aid their injured brethren. These fearless women, aided only by protective shielding, are highly skilled healers capable of restoring the health and vitality of wounded soldiers. While expendable, the massive losses of terran marines during the Great War began to become cost prohibitive. The medic's use of chemical modifiers has greatly enhanced the survival rate of UED forces, lengthening the expected battlefield life expectancy to over nine seconds.[3]

During the Guild Wars, the Confederacy experimented with adding medics to front-line infantry units. By the Great War, Confederate medics mostly remained at bases to care for wounded soldiers. The Dominion still maintains a combat medic program, as medivac dropships are expensive to deploy.[4] Despite their armor and arm-mounted shields, medics are vulnerable on the battlefield. Generally, their only armament is the A-13 flash grenade launcher, which is used to provide illumination and blind enemy targets.[4]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Lt. Morales is a ranged Healer whose powerful single-target heals make her a very good addition to most Warriors and melee Assassins. However, her lack of mobility causes her to be an easy target to engage on, which is why it is of utmost importance to know how to position yourself when playing as Lt. Morales.

Strengths[edit | edit source]

  • Powerful single-target heals
  • Strong damage reduction
  • Strong late game

Weaknesses[edit | edit source]

  • No AoE heals
  • Healing Beam is quite Energy consuming
  • Lack of escape mechanisms
  • Has no potential on soloing anything, including siege, waveclear or dueling

  • Lt. Morales's trait Caduceus Reactor is an upgrade for medics in Brood War.
  • Medivac Dropship is a unit introduced in StarCraft II, replacing the medic in Versus mode.
  • Displacement Grenade is loosely based off the the "Optical Flare" ability that medics could obtain in Brood War. Lt. Morales has a quite reflecting the difference between the two abilities. Morales's use of an A-13 grenade launcher reflects her status as a UED medic, as Koprulu Sector medics were not armed with them.

  • Hunter Morales skin has colors reminiscent of Samus Aran's classic armor, from the Metroid games (August 1986).
  • Fiery Morales skin has colors reminiscent of anime protagonist Asuka Langley Soryu, from Neon Genesis Evangelion (October 1995).

Ability and talent notes[edit | edit source]

  • The level 7 upgrade: "Medi-Drone", has an neat feature will allow Lt. Morales to heal herself from Healing Beam, due to being able to self-casting Safeguard. This will result in Lt. Morales effectively healing herself for 50% of the amount of Healing Beam. If you combine this with the level 20: "Caduceus Reactor 2.0", you will allow yourself for excellent sustain, that is up to 580 Health Points/sec ( at level 20). This is the highest Health Point regeneration of any hero in the game.
