Talent Type Identification

I noticed, that since I added/modified the Passive and Quest templates; others have added Quest Only, Reward and Active templates.

I think this might be getting a bit out of hand as far as the descriptions go. The Passive and Quest/Reward ones work fine, but I am not sure why the talent-type identifiers are being added.

There are now half a dozen pages using Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Active.

Talent Types / Buttons

  • ⇧ Q
  • ⇧ W
  • ⇧ E
  • ⇧ Trait (D)
  • ⇧ Heroic (R)
  • Active
  • Passive

Note: that the Passive talent-type is NOT the same as the Passive wording inside the talent description.

Here's the CSS version with an example: https://jsfiddle.net/MrPolywhirl/jcxbd73m/

The case I would make for using descriptors like active vs. passive on talents is that you can look at a talent like Anub'arak's Legion of Beetles or Zagara's Infest and they function differently than something like Valeera's Crippling/Wound Poison. I guess that's not entirely true, Anub's talent is probably closer to Valeera's in the sense that is has a cooldown. They just made his a toggle because who wants to hit a button every 8 secs while you could just turn it into a toggle. In fact I'm not sure why Blizz didn't decide to make his trait turn into the button to toggle instead of adding another bar above his abilites, but that's a discussion for another topic. Back to my point though, even though these talents have toggles vs 1 push(has a duration and CD) I feel those function most similarly to a passive. The only reason you would maybe want to untoggle those is for sneaking up on an enemy to gank them. In that case I would argue that putting active next to a talented ability helps to distinguish it from a more passive toggle-type of talent.
For a hero you haven't played before it helps you understand how a talent functions, imo, to put that active descriptor. I personally believe that's why Blizz made a passthrough on all the talents and added those tags(⇧ Q, Passive, Active, etc) to better inform a player, besides just the icon on the talents, what the talent pick relates to. Biggest argument I would also make is that it brings consistency. You look on the site and see that things are the same as the game then there is less room for confusion.
If its just a matter of clutter, i'd think there would be a way to organize it and still allow for the tags. Just need a standardized method of inputting it or add a tab in the editor (like Advanced, Special Characters, or Help). More work initially, but payoff in the long run.

The whole reason why I made this post was to point out that I only added the Passive text, which became a template, because it was in the description of the ability. If we want/need to add a type to each applicable talent, it would not be in the description portion. It would be best if we had an image/icon to distinguish each talent and have said image float:right within the the ability's panel.

Unrelated Content Spam

What does an Australian-Canadian animated superhero comedy television series have to do with Heroes of the Storm, let alone Blizzard? Apparently there is a show by the same name of the user who is causing a lot of noise on this Wiki.

The user has modified a couple widely-used templates by adding incomprehensible nonsense. Admins, please put a stop to these shenanigans.

The following user(s) are abusing this wiki by creating meaningless templates and pages:

Unfortunately the public logs, as listed above, do not show all their edits. You may need to view the Special:RecentChanges log. There are already a couple images and templates marked by Kandooww for deletion: Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Delete

I think I cleaned up what was left. Thank you for catching this. I've posted notices on both of the user pages, so hopefully they stop, but if they don't let me know and we can take other measures. --Alianin 04:53, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
