Fragments of the Dark Nexus is a Dark Nexus-themed event in Heroes of the Storm that began on April 14 and ended on June 26, 2020. It is a follow-up to the Behold the Power of the Dark Nexus! event from two years ago.

Background

After his banishment into the Dark Nexus, the Raven Lord found a way to return, as well as absorb more Heroes into the chaotic energies of the Dark Nexus. Beware, the power is unleashed once again!

It began with a crack. A seeping wound through which the Raven Lord drew beings of the Dark Nexus to serve his nefarious will. Though the Raven Lord was defeated, the crack remained. It widened. Spiderwebbed. A drip became a flow, and the flow became a flood, chaos and hatred spilling across the Nexus, threatening to defile it forever.

Some, like the noble Protoss heroes Tassadar and Fenix, journeyed into the rift, risking their sanity to slow the corruption. Others, drawn by the outpouring of power, sought to harness it. Deathwing soared into the violent heart of the Dark Nexus intent on gorging himself and waging a war of conquest. As with Tassadar and Fenix, contact with the turbulent forces found within transformed the fearsome black dragon forever.

Will the snarling overflow of Dark Nexus energies be stopped, reversed, or turned to Deathwing's maleficent will?

Backstory: When Dark Nexus energies spilled across the Nexus, Tassadar’s attempts to contain them changed him. For each tendril of chaos he subdued, another came to life within; enhancing his abilities but awakening an inner struggle reflected in his fractured form.

Dark Nexus Alarak
Backstory: In the forgotten darkness beyond reality, a new avatar of primordial power has been forged. The dark mirror of Alarak's malice and sadism seethes with contempt towards all of existence... including its own.

Backstory: The avatars of the Dark Nexus are twisted reflections of heroes and villains. While they may wear familiar guises, they are, in truth, chaos and hatred incarnate... an ancient evil that can only be bargained with: never controlled.
