Azmodan, the Lord of Sin, is a Ranged Assassin Hero from the Diablo universe.[1][2] The Lord of Sin rules over a densely populated land of hell where both the greatest joys and despair, and the deepest depravities can be experienced. But it is never enough for Azmodan, who has set his eyes on the realm of Sanctuary.
Azmodan is a Summoner who can also deal high damage from far away.
Background[ | ]
Azmodan, the Lord and Aspect of Sin, is one of the four Lesser Evils which make up the seven Great Evils and was born from one of the seven heads of the great dragon Tathamet at the beginning of time. After the events of the Sin War, Azmodan, together with Belial, banished the Three to Sanctuary when they realized the Three were planning to break the pact Hell had made with Heaven. This began the time known as the Dark Exile. Shortly thereafter, a civil war broke out between the two Lesser Evils, which Azmodan quickly won. He has ruled Hell for the last 300 years to this day. He is also the ruler of the Realm of Sin in the Burning Hells.
During the Black Soulstone cinematic first revealed at Blizzcon 2011, it is revealed that it is Azmodan who is invading Sanctuary during the events of Diablo III. The reason is because he seeks the Black Soulstone, with which he intends to become "The Prime Evil"[3].
Gameplay[ | ]
Azmodan is a Summoner that revels in long-range assaults and sieging. His abnormally large Health pool makes him difficult to take down despite limited mobility. Demon Lieutenant allows Azmodan to improve their immediate lane presence, or apply pressure to distant lanes, thanks to the Ability's global cast range.
Strengths[ | ]
- Outstanding sieging and waveclearing capabilities
- Split-Pushing
- Large Health pool
- High damage dealing potential
Weaknesses[ | ]
- Large and relatively immobile; easy to body block
- Very vulnerable to interruption
- Limited team fight utility
Abilities[ | ]
- See Data page for a table of scaled values at key levels.
Talents[ | ]
Globe of Annihilation deals 15% more damage to non-Heroic targets.
ā¢ Quest: After gaining 200 Annihilation, increase the range of All Shall Burn by 25% and Demon Warriors gain 20% Attack Speed and Movement Speed.
Increase the number of stacks of Annihilation gained by hitting Heroes with Globe of Annihilation from 2 to 4.
ā¢ Quest: After gaining 200 Annihilation, each enemy hit by Globe of Annihilation reduces its cooldown by 0.25 seconds, doubled against Heroes.
Basic Attacks against Heroes under 75% Health grant 1 Annihilation.
ā¢ Quest: After gaining 200 Annihilation, hitting a Hero with Globe of Annihilation increases the damage of Azmodan's next Basic Attack against them within 3 seconds by 85% of the amount of Annihilation he has.
- Annihilation is gained before the Basic Attack damage is dealt, increasing its damage if the Quest is complete and the Basic Attack would also be empowered by it.
Summon Demon Warrior spawns an additional Demon, but its cooldown is increased by 10 seconds.
Demon Warriors and Lieutenants gain 20 Armor and last 4 seconds longer.
Reduce the Mana cost of Summon Demon Warrior from 25 to 20. Azmodan's Basic Attacks reduce the cooldown of Summon Demon Warrior by 0.75 seconds and Demon Lieutenant by 1.5 seconds.
If Globe of Annihilation hits 2 or more Heroes, restore 40 Mana and gain an extra 4 Annihilation.
After casting Globe of Annihilation, Azmodan's Basic Attacks within the next 4 seconds have an additional 1.5 range and can hit 3 additional targets. Hitting Heroes with Basic Attacks empowered by Bombardment grants 1 Annihilation.
- The additional targets hit can grant stacks for the Wrath talent and receive its bonus damage, and also grant cooldown reduction for the Battleborn talent.
- Annihilation is gained before the Basic Attack damage is dealt (increasing its damage if Wrath's Quest is complete and the Basic Attacks would also be empowered by it).
If All Shall Burn's channel kills or lasts its full duration, All Shall Burn's final damage applies to all enemies in an area around the target and grants 2 Annihilation per Hero hit.
- Also triggers if the target dies to any other source of damage than All Shall Burn while its channel is active.
Cooldown: 100 seconds
Rain a small army of Demonic Grunts down on enemies, dealing 85 damage per impact. Grunts deal 39 damage, have 750 Health and last up to 10 seconds. When Grunts die they explode, dealing 40 damage to nearby enemies, doubled against enemy Heroes.

- Reduces periodic damage ticks by 2. Damage per tick remains unchanged, lowering the total damage of the Ability.
- Also triggers if the target dies to any other source of damage than All Shall Burn while its channel is active.
The cooldown of Demon Lieutenants' Demonic Smite is reduced by 2 seconds and they grant 25% increased damage to nearby friendly Minions, Mercenaries, and Azmodanās summoned Demons.

- Stacks additively with other offensive damage modifiers affecting the target units' damage output.
Globe of Annihilation damages Heroes for an additional 4% of their maximum Health.
If All Shall Burn Channels for its full duration or kills the target, a Demon Warrior is summoned at the target's location and all Demon Warriors deal 75% increased damage for 5 seconds.

- Armor reduction: 8.0 per second (x40)
- Damage: 4.0 per second (x20)
- Stacks additively with itself, but not with other negative Armor effects. Other defensive damage modifiers may stack.
After gaining 400 Annihilation, the area of Globe of Annihilation is increased by 15% and it deals 125 additional damage.
- Increases radius by 15%, so the area is actually increased by 32%.
All Shall Burn Slows enemy Heroes by 15% during its Channel. If All Shall Burn Channels for its full duration or kills an enemy Hero, its cooldown is reduced by 50%, and the target is Slowed by 50% for 2.5 seconds.
- Also triggers if the target dies to any other source of damage than All Shall Burn while its channel is active.

Trivia[ | ]
- Azmodan was mentioned in Diablo (December 1996), but did not make an in-game appearance until Diablo III (May 2012).
- Azmodan is voiced by David Sobolov.[5]
- Azmodan was one of the three heroes revealed at Gamescom 2014.[6]
- Azmodan is the largest assassin hero in the game.
- Azmodan is one of four demons in the game, the others being Diablo, The Butcher, and Mephisto.
- One of Azmodan's gag quotes ("Nephalems and Woozles") refers to "Heffalumps and Woozles" from the Disney short, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (December 1968).
- Despite being classified as a 'Lesser Evil', Azmodan is extremely powerful and has long warred with Diablo for dominance over the Burning Hells. Their rivalry eventually led Azmodan to stage a successful coup d'etat against Diablo, ending in Diablo's exile from the Burning Hells and beginning the events of the original Diablo game.
- Azmodan was designed to match his reputation as a masterful (although overconfident) military commander and tactician of Hell. Although he went through many iterations on his individual abilities, Azmodan stayed a specialist hero during development. The developers made sure he would focus on pushing down enemy forts with summoned units, bombarding enemies from afar with siege abilities, or conscripting mercenary camps. They wanted to do Azmodan the justice of being powerful in his own right, strength that a true Lord of Hell would deserve. In Heroes of the Storm, Azmodan is certainly able to wade into the thick of battle himself: he's got more health than any other specialist currently, and his All Shall Burn ability is excellent for focused damage on enemy heroes and structures. Obviously Azmodan prefers going into battle with an army of minions and mercenaries at his back, but whatever the situation, he won't be going down without a fight.[7]
- Due to his size, Azmodan is limited to mounts he can stand on (such as Blackheart's Doubloon, Champion's Nexagon, Championship Banner, Hearthstone Card, Magic Carpet, Star Chariot, and Void Speeder).
- Azmodan's "Azmodunk" skin originates from Heroes tournaments. People commented that Azmodan was "dunking" on the enemy, as his fireball looked like a big basketball, and he hurled it like he was throwing a three-pointer. The nickname was coined, and the community desire for a skin was noticed by the developers. The developers found a place in their skin development cycle, and created the Azmodunk skin.[8]
- Azmodan's quote, "You fail to amuse me," which is said in response to certain heroes he is in disagreement with at the start of a match, is a possible reference to the Pit Lord neutral hero from Warcraft 3, who uses the same voice line.
