ARAM

ARAM

ARAM (All Random All Mid) is an action-packed game mode in Heroes of the Storm. Choose from three Heroes, then battle it out on a chaotic single-lane Battleground.

Overview[ | ]

  • The map pool for ARAM mode consists of four one-lane maps.
  • There are no additional objectives on the ARAM maps: destroy the enemy's Core to win.
  • Experience Globes have a base value of 160.
  • As the match starts, every player must pick one out of three randomly selected heroes. Think fast: you have only 30 seconds!
  • Hearthstones are disabled, and starting area does not regenerate health.
  • The Core has no Shield but has increased Health: starting at 32,000 HP, it caps at 40,000 HP at 20 minutes.
  • ARAM games contribute to Daily Quests.
  • Globe generators spawn Regeneration Globes on the battlefield.
  • There is a 2% chance that all players will be the same Hero.

Background[ | ]

The ARAM match style has initially been seen in Dota and has since spread to MOBAs such as League of Legends. The playstyle encourages constant skirmishes by funneling players into one area and trimming the fat, so to speak, from other activities such as jungling. It also adds an element of unpredictability via the “random” requirement.

In Heroes of the Storm, many players were shoehorning custom matches with regular maps into ARAM, but had to rely on players to observe certain rules by sticking to a lane, not wandering to do objectives and not hearthing back to base. Blizzard has seen that players have been creating one-lane matches on Heroes' existing maps, so they wanted to create a Battleground that makes things a little easier—and maybe even a little more exciting—for everyone who enjoys these game. With the release of the Lost Cavern map it makes it easier for players to stick to the rules by only featuring one lane and also removing objectives and disabling starting-area heals. Multiple single-lane Battlegrounds were thereafter introduced in the Heroes Brawls.

With the Patch H.52, Heroes Brawl mode was replaced with the new ARAM - All Random All Mid mode. Outside of a few crowd-favorites (Pull Party and Escape From Braxis), the weeks that the Brawl turned on an ARAM Battleground, the player numbers for the mode incresed heavily. Outside of the vast popularity differences, the older Brawl Battlegrounds were also too difficult to constantly update and maintain while continuing the work the developers wanted to do on everything else. These were the two major reasons that they made the decision to permanently give ARAM a home and sideline Brawls, at least for the time being.[1]

Crazy mode[ | ]

ARAM features a "Crazy mode" wherein all 10 players are granted the same Hero selection, which has a 2% chance of occurring.
Some Heroes are disabled in Crazy mode. Here is a list of all Heroes that are available:
